Do you find that you tend to notice someone’s smile within the first few seconds of an introduction?  When you encounter someone whose smile is bright and natural, it catches your attention almost instantly. After seeing someone else’s smile, whether your impression is positive or negative, it’s natural to start thinking about your own smile and your interactions with others. Simply making a few improvements to your own teeth helps to improve your general appearance, your self-esteem and even your confidence.  Each of our cosmetic dentistry services can help you to achieve a more ideal smile.

Teeth whitening makes having a beautiful smile far easier than you might think.  Today’s simple whitening procedures are safe, quick and remarkably inexpensive.  Most forms of superficial discoloration from staining or aging can be corrected and eliminated.  Adults who are bothered by teeth that are brown, yellow or grey can once again enjoy a brighter, more vibrant smile that looks great in pictures and also in person.

At Wind River Dental and Orthodontics we offer a special incentive to our patients that keep their preventative visits current – Whitening For Life!  At your first appointment, we will take impressions of your teeth and when your custom trays are ready we will give you the trays as well as your first supply of whitening gel.  When you come back for your 6-month treatments, we will give you your next supply of whitening gel. It’s as easy as that!  Preventative care and beautiful white teeth as the same time.

Porcelain veneers have helped to expand the list of esthetic problems that can be corrected through cosmetic dentistry. When thin veneers are directly bonded to the front surfaces of the front teeth, patients can experience improvements that are incredibly drastic and instantaneous. They have become increasingly popular for their ability to correct gaps, conceal discoloration, reshape the teeth, and improve symmetry. Veneers are a permanent cosmetic solution for many of your most common esthetic concerns.

Cosmetic dental bonding is perhaps the simplest and least expensive cosmetic dental solution currently available. We use a highly durable composite resin material that can be shaped and polished to blend perfectly with your own enamel. Cosmetic bonding is typically used to improve the look of teeth that are discolored, chipped, or otherwise affected by minor imperfections. Bonding is also ideal when you wish to close gaps between the teeth, change the length of the teeth, or improve the shape of teeth. Dental bonding can be performed on a single tooth or on several teeth and is typically completed in one dental visit.

Common Questions

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry involves using specific treatments and procedures to enhance the appearance of teeth and gums. For instance, restorative materials like composite resin and porcelain can be used to change the appearance of teeth – especially when particular imperfections like chips, cracks, and jagged edges need to be concealed. Common procedures used to improve the aesthetics of one’s smile include the placement of porcelain veneers, administration of teeth whitening treatments, cosmetic bonding treatments, orthodontics to move teeth to straighter positions, and restorations like dental crowns to rebuild the shape and size of damaged teeth.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a restoration that is custom made to fit over an entire tooth above the gums. Crowns are used to repair severely damaged teeth as well as improve their appearance. When white materials such as porcelain are used to fabricate a crown, a patient’s restoration can serve as a cosmetic enhancement. If teeth are stained intrinsically, broken, or noticeably worn down, a white crown can protect what is left of tooth structure while improving the size, shape, and overall aesthetic of a diseased or damaged tooth. Since skilled technicians fabricate dental crowns, they will closely resemble biological teeth.

What is a veneer?

A veneer is a shell-like and tooth-shaped enhancement made of porcelain. It is bonded over the front side of a tooth and is used to conceal imperfections. Since the veneer is wafer thin, only the outer side of a biological tooth will need to be prepared for its placement. Veneers can conceal deep stains, cracks, chips, and misaligned teeth. When a series of veneers are bonded over the most visible teeth, they will produce a uniform and proportionate looking smile.

I have sensitive teeth; can I still whiten my teeth?

Some whitening products sold in stores – especially those that utilize abrasives to scrub away surface stains – can intensify tooth sensitivity. Fortunately, when patients choose to have their teeth whitened from a professional who utilizes prescription ingredients, they can enjoy the results of a bright, vibrant smile without permanent or increased discomfort. If you suffer with sensitive teeth, we recommend that you speak with our dentist about your whitening options. After a consultation, we can help you determine the best way to brighten your smile.
